Not many knew the history of this popular fruit in Brazil but a diplomat now has brought to light the history of Jackfruit in Brazil which is popularly known as ‘Kathal’ in India

“Delighted to see a lot of Jackfruit (कटहल) in Rio de Janeiro & Brasilia. Not native to Brazil, it is widely regarded that it came from India along with the Portuguese in the 17th Century. Its abundance in Brazil, the size of its trees & fruits do indicate that Brazil’s climate is perfect for its growth.”
However internet describes that Portuguese colonists introduced jackfruit to Brazil in the late 17th century, likely from Goa, a Portuguese stronghold in India. The fruit was brought to Salvador, Bahia, which was the first capital of colonial Brazil.
However there are reports that many Brazilians are not willing to eat jackfruit. However that may or may not be true
