A 23-year-old Indian student, Charanpreet Singh, was brutally assaulted in central Adelaide on July 19 while visiting a light display with his wife. A group of five men reportedly confronted him during a car parking dispute, screaming racial slurs such as “F‑off, Indian,” before launching a vicious attack. Singh was punched, stomped, and struck with metal objects, suffering multiple facial fractures and suspected brain trauma. He remains hospitalized in critical condition at Royal Adelaide Hospital. Authorities have arrested a 20-year-old man from Enfield and charged him with assault causing harm; investigations, including CCTV reviews, are ongoing. South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas described the attack as “deeply disturbing” and stressed there is no place for racism in the state. This case is among several recent racially motivated assaults targeting Indians abroad, raising serious concerns about the safety of international students overseas.
